This page is intended for users within the NASA community, which includes NASA employees, contractors and grantees, as well as other Federal government employees and contractors. Some of the resources on this page require verified NASA affiliation and/or authorized approval for access.
- NASA Aeronautics and Space Database (NA&SD)
- The NASA Aeronautics and Space Database (NA&SD) contains over 4 million metadata records that include citations and abstracts of NASA technical reports, videos, journal articles, and conference proceedings. Content ranges from the early National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) publications to today’s latest research. The NA&SD features over half a million searchable, full-text documents in PDF, custom display formats, and saved search capability.
Access to the NA&SD is only available through the NASA Application Management System (NAMS) and requires you to have an established NASA Agency User Identity (AUID) and a NASA Launchpad password in the NASA Identity Management and Account Exchange (IdMAX) system.
- NA&SD Training via YouTube
- The NASA Center for AeroSpace Information (CASI), NASA’s contract operational arm for the STI Program, has developed training videos to help users become more familiar with the features and functions of the NA&SD. Users can access these tutorials via the NASA STI YouTube Channel to learn on-demand and at their own pace.
- NA&SD Registration
- Individual access to the NASA Aeronautics and Space Database (NA&SD) is available to NASA employees, contractors, and grantees, as well as other Federal government employees and contractors. Every registrant must be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident.
Registration Instructions for New Users
- NASA employees or NASA contractors WITH a NASA AUID and Launchpad password:
Visit https://idmax.nasa.gov, login and add the NA&SD as an application: - Click “Access Management”
- Click “Request or Modify Application Account”
- Select the “Applications” tab
- Enter “NASA Aeronautics and Space Database”
- Once retrieved, select to “Add” the application
- NASA contractors or NASA grantees WITHOUT a NASA AUID and Launchpad password:
Contact your NASA Contracting Officer, NASA Contracting Officer Technical Representative (COTR), Grant Officer, or Grant Technical Officer to sponsor you in IdMAX (https://idmax.nasa.gov). Once you have an activated account, add the NA&SD as an application. If your sponsor experiences difficulties, please fill out the NA&SD Registration Form, and CASI will initiate the IdMAX process. After you submit the form, you will be contacted with further instructions. - Non-NASA Federal employees and Non-NASA Federal contractors:
Please complete the NA&SD Registration Form to begin the process of acquiring a NASA AUID and Launchpad password within the NASA IdMAX system. After you submit the form, you will be contacted with further instructions.
- NASA employees or NASA contractors WITH a NASA AUID and Launchpad password:
- SATERN STI Training
- For more information about publishing, locating and archiving NASA STI take the NASA Scientific and Technical Information Training offered via SATERN. This module seeks to educate users about the value of NASA’s scientific and technical information and help reduce the STI knowledge drain experienced at NASA centers due to staff reductions.
To access this course log in to SATERN with your NASA Agency User ID and search for course OTH-004-03.
- GRABIT
- Incorporate NASA scientific and technical information (STI) into project- or program-specific interfaces with GRABIT, a free service that allows NASA and NASA-contractor groups to obtain structured metadata and full-text document links to the full collection of publicly available STI contained in the NASA Aeronautics and Space Database. The structured metadata includes information on authorship, organizational relationships, publication sources, dates, subject terms, abstracts, and more. Document linking provides seamless access to full-text PDFs.
GRABIT provides access to STI through your own local interface, so search and display features are familiar and the STI collection is integrated with your existing project information. There is no need to search or merge results from a separate repository, so the bigger picture and connections of interest are easier to discern.
How it works:
- You (your organization) and the STI Program Office complete the required Terms and Conditions agreement.
- We provide an initial set of XML files for download via our secure FTP site.
- At the beginning of each month we post a full replacement file; in addition, we provide an updated XML file mid-month.
- You contribute to the STI collection by providing any qualifying STI produced by your organization to the NASA Aeronautics and Space Database.
To find out more about the GRABIT service, complete the “I Want to GRABIT” form, and we’ll contact you about getting started.
