Commercial Benefits––Spinoffs

In order to assist NASA in its commercialization efforts of new, sophisticated, and versatile technologies, the agency's Technology Transfer Program was redefined and considerably broadened. The NASA Commercial Technology Network (NCTN) is a new mechanism combining many different services and organizations nationwide to promote commercialization.*

The NCTN has been essential in assisting commercialization of brand new technologies, enabling U.S. industry to remain globally competitive, while effecting benefits for all humankind at the same time.

The following pages demonstrate the applicability of technologies resulting from the many, often captivating, research and development activities at NASA, its transfer, and its commercialization by the engineering community. Wide-ranging outreach and partnership activities under the NCTN have again resulted in many new and diverse products and services--known as "spinoffs."

*For more information, see the NCTN website at <http://nctn.hq.nasa.gov>.
